Position Description: Long-term volunteer (Site Construction Supervisor)

General duties of the volunteer:

  • Work with the Associate for Housing Recovery and Volunteer Programs to define the scope of work projects and project goals.
  • Provide on-site construction management to volunteer work teams, including safety protocols, training and supervision.
  • Work with designated site supervisors of volunteer work teams to facilitate progress on work sites and communicate project goals.
  • Assist Associate for Housing Recovery and Volunteer Programs in assessing the need for construction materials and in procuring those materials.
  • Participate in and provide input to work team orientation, daily check-in and end-of-week debriefing sessions.

  • Ability to work as a self-starter and independently while valuing teamwork
  • Ability to work well with skilled and unskilled volunteers, adults and youth
  • Experience in organizing groups of people
  • Strong general construction skills; electrical and plumbing experience also helpful
  • Ability to commit to a three-six month assignment (12 months desired)

This volunteer position will be considered part of the “Partners for Service” program of the UCC Office of Volunteer Ministries. “Partners in Service” volunteer positions are full-time placements for a specified period of time. The volunteer receives housing and a food/general stipend during the service period, reimbursement for work-related travel and a limited accident and illness healthy insurance policy if needed.
